What did Nikola Tesla's 1905 patent say about waves in the earth?

“From data obtained in a large number of observations of the maxima and minima of these waves I found their length to vary approximately from twenty-five to seventy kilometers, and these results and certain theoretical deductions led me to the conclusion that waves of this kind may be propagated in all directions over the globe and that they may be of still more widely differing lengths, the extreme limits being imposed by the physical dimensions and properties of the earth.”

What do people ask about the Earthquake Monitor?

Has any agency ever called a major earthquake in advance?

No. According to the USGS, neither the USGS nor any other scientists have ever called a major earthquake in advance. Scientists can only calculate the probability that an earthquake of a given size will strike a region within a span of years. This monitor shows events after they happen.

How does the USGS measure earthquake magnitude?

The USGS calculates magnitude from seismic waves recorded by seismometers around the world. The standard moment magnitude scale measures the total energy released at the rupture, and it replaced the older local Richter scale for large earthquakes. This monitor lists every M4.5+ event from the global USGS feed.

Which earthquakes does this monitor list?

Every M4.5+ earthquake of the past 24 hours from the real-time global USGS feed, listed and mapped with its magnitude and depth. Seismic events shown here are reported by the USGS and reproduced as published. Nikola Tesla Web issues no alerts of its own and computes no correlation.
